Transplantation Learning Journey – TLJ 2.0

Start Date:
Sunday, November 15th 2020 at 10:00
End Date:
Tuesday, November 17th 2020 at 15:00
Country:
online
Description & Objectives:

After careful consideration, and given the current circumstances, the ESOT Executive Committee has decided to hold TLJ 2.0 entirely online, with the dates of the event remaining the same, 15-17 November 2020.

The ESOT Executive Committee believes this is the most appropriate way to allow for an active participation of the community in Europe (and beyond) while ensuring everyone’s safety, especially considering the difficulty in predicting how the COVID-19 pandemic will evolve in the fall. As this decision does not substantially affect the scientific programme or the educational objectives of TLJ 2.0, we are committed to making the necessary adjustments that allow for a smooth transition to the online format, while fully preserving the spirit and the substance of the event.

TLJ 2.0 is particularly well suited to be a fully online event as it was always designed to promote interaction and discussion within the transplantation community well beyond a face-to-face event. While we look forward to meeting in person soon, TLJ 2.0 enables us to continue growing our knowledge and developing collaborations on the most advanced topics in transplantation.

We hope you will join our unique Transplantation Learning Journey 2.0 Online Experience. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with the ESOT Team if you have any questions or concerns via askme@esot.org.

Join us in producing new science at TLJ 2.0.

more details are available here

Topics of discussion have been selected based on an extensive consultation process among ESOT’s Sections & Committees. These topics are the focus of the workstreams, managed by leaders in the field, who will connect with peers and mentors. It is our goal to build an expanded network, trigger new research, collaboration, exchange and discussion.

The discussion starts in the workstreams and the outcomes are shared and presented at TLJ 2.0.

WS01 – New Surrogate endpoints in transplantation

This consensus workshop will focus on endpoints solely on “how to define successful kidney transplantation”. This focuses on the innovative organ sources, like xenotransplants, 3D printed organs, lab grown organs, currently not used resuscitated organs using innovative perfusion techniques etc.
Led and moderated by Maarten Naesens and Stefan Schneeberger.

WS02 – CMV infection and disease

This workstream focuses on describing the state of the art of the prevention and treatment of CMV infection in solid organ transplant recipients.Led by Paolo Antonio Grossi and moderated by Maria Simonenko and Cristina Rovelli.
Kindly supported by an unrestricted grant from MSD

WS03 – Cancer in pre and post transplant patients

The aim of this workgroup is to establish a consensus on key questions concerning cancer in solid organ transplant recipients namely, what are the changes of immunosuppressive therapy that can currently be recommended in transplant recipients with skin and non-skin cancers.
Led by Umberto Maggiore and moderated by Ilaria Gandolfini and  Alessandra Palmisano.

WS04 – NRP after DCD

This workstream aims to provide an evidence based answer to the following question: Should NRP become standard of care in DCD donation?
Led by Ina Jochmans and moderated by Maria Irene Bellini.

WS05 – It’s not only extended donor criteria, it’s extending the donor pool

Donation and transplantation is a going-on discipline. Organ donors and recipients are time by time more complex from the medical perspective and we must guarantee that the transplant of this non-standard and non extended criteria donor is safe.
Led by Giuseppe Feltrin and Nuria Masnou.

WS06 – HLA desensitization

This workstream focuses on discussing the potential recipients with otherwise suitable donors who are relegated to the ever-expanding deceased-donor waiting list because of preformed human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antibodies (HLA sensitization) which may be acquired via pregnancy, transfusion, and/or prior transplant.
Led by Nizam Mamode
Kindly supported by an unrestricted grant from HANSA

WS07 – COVID-19

Collaboration between members/countries of the ESOT community to analyse data retrospectively and to create a (flexible and regularly updated) guideline document to support the individuals (patients and clinicians) within the Transplant community in times of a pandemic.
Led by Vassilios Papalois and moderated by Maria Irene Bellini
Kindly supported by an unrestricted grant from MSD

Learning Workstream

A full stream of mutual understanding and learning dedicated to Transplant Donor Coordinators, Allied Healthcare Professionals, Ethical, Legal and Psychosocial Aspects of Organ Transplantation and European Transplant Patient Organizations (ETPO).
Led by Anna Forsberg, Nichon Jansen, Hannah Maple, Emma Massey, David Paredes

SS01 (EKITA) – Combined Transplantation

What are the main issues and considerations with regard to combined transplants from the surgical, medical and ethical point of view.
Led by Robert Langer

SS02 (ECTTA) – Heart and Lung

Biventricular heart failure (VADs and artificial hearts) and Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP)
Led by Ivan Knezevic

SS03 (BSC-ECTORS-VCA) – New aspects in Organ Regeneration in Transplant Immunology

Join the BSC symposium for the latest updates on regeneration, metabolism and innate immunity in transplantation research. We want to provide you with selected highlights and cutting edge innovations in transplant medicine with special regard to basic immunology, organ regeneration and vascularized composite tissue transplantation.
Led by Katja Kotsch

Workstream Leaders:

ESOT is building on the strengths of the TLJ 2018 experience (cross-fertilisation among different topic and field experts) to launch a completely new project, TLJ 2.0.

The concept of TLJ is LEARNING: learning never stops and emerging stars, expert professionals and opinion leaders need to keep learning to stay on top of their discipline. TLJ 2.0 provides value and produces concrete outcomes for all three of these types of transplantation professionals.

The meeting has a completely new structure now, that leads up to and beyond the face-to-face experience by introducing preparatory pre-meeting work to support consensus workgroups, and pre and post-meeting interaction and discussion among all participants.

Led by ESOT Sections, the TLJ 2.0 programme targets all audiences by including consensus workgroups, small mentoring sessions and keynote lectures, all connected seamlessly by ESOT’s innovative approach to meetings.

Workgroups will develop a series of consensus papers aimed for publications in Transplant International and further dissemination and interaction will be achieved by interactive materials hosted on Transplant Live, the ESOT e-learning platform.

Patients are welcome to attend and will be invited to contribute.

TLJ 2.0 is a comprehensive experience designed to promote discussion before and after the meeting.
